Top 5 Best Floor Mattress Reviews

After much research and testing, these are my five choices on the best floor mattresses:

Zinus Memory Foam Tri-Fold Portable Mattress - Supportive and Comfortable

What makes the Zinus Memory Foam Folding the best buy is its comfort and support! This was the first-floor mattress I tested, and I do NOT have any significant complaints about it. All I have surprised compliments and praises.

I appreciate that it's made of the high-quality memory foam, which contours to my body well. While it isn't the thick mattress I was used to, it did the job in relieving pain and pressure. It's also made of BioFoam to lessen the odors and also absorb moisture.

Because of its excellent quality foam, I had no problems with molding and allergens. As long as I place it on a clean floor and fold when not in use, it stays fresh!

I find it best to use for the guest room when they need extra mattresses. But, I sometimes sleep here too when I feel like it. It's THAT comfortable and if I needed to rebuy it, I would!

Just make sure that you watch out for its fabric and seams, caring for it well. Other than that, it's worth the investment.

Pros
  • Made of the excellent memory foam for comfort and support
  • Can last long and stay fresh if cared for properly
  • Relieves pressure and feels soft enough to sleep on
Cons
  • The fabric and seams aren’t as durable
  • Some complaints of feeling a few foam scraps

BetterHabitat Sleep Ready Memory Foam Floor Mattress - Travel-Friendly and Durable

If you need something versatile for travel or home, then I recommend the Better Habitat SleepReady! I commend it for its ease of setup and storage capabilities and make.

For starters, it's made of the waterproof properties, which make it suitable for camping. Its cover is soft and water-resistant to prevent discomfort from bad weather, and it's also made of memory foam! The three-inch memory foam helps in keeping me supported wherever I go.

I notice that it's high-quality memory foam. So not only does it help relieve pressure, but it's hypoallergenic and comfortable, too. It also feels soft to the touch, making me sleep like a baby.

But what makes it so portable and convenient? It comes with a strap and travel bag, perfect for going out! It has the carrying handle, a big travel bag, as well as the easy rollout.

Just unclip and roll it out, then you've got a bed! Even large-framed people of up to 230lbs can use this, as it's healthy and durable.

From its convenience and travel-friendly features, I believe it to be the best bedding for guests and travelers alike.

Pros
  • Reliable and durable memory foam that’s soft and hypoallergenic
  • Travel-friendly and lightweight to bring anywhere
  • It can be used for people of up to 230lbs
Cons
  • The mattress only comes in twin size
  • Large-framed people can still feel flat spots around the body sometimes.

D&D Futon Furniture Traditional Floor Mattress - Traditional and Simple

Do you want the more traditional and minimalist feels? Then you'll like the Rolling Bed DDFR33080. It doesn't only save on space and keep you supported, but it's also very affordable!

Honestly, I recommend that you hold your expectations when sleeping with this futon. It isn't exactly the softest and will take a week or so to get used to. But, you'll surprise that sleeping on the floor with this actually helps your back!

After having a sore back from this, it completely disappeared slowly but surely. I impressed and intrigued, but once I did the research, these types of mattresses actually help with body pain! The firmness from the floor and soft futon make a right combination of pressure relief.

The futon itself is pretty simple and straightforward. Easy to pull out and fold, I had no issue in assembly. It stretched and expanded once unfolded, and I was able to sleep within minutes.

This is a fantastic buy for space-saving and the minimalist lifestyle. Simply designed, it does a great job in helping me sleep. Plus, you can use it for lounging or sitting on the floor comfortably!

Pros
  • The mattress comes at an affordable price
  • It’s easy to set up and fold again
  • Designed merely and helps relieve back pain
Cons
  • Takes a week or so to get used to the firmness
  • It has a bit of an odor for the first few weeks

It comes in different sizes, so I opted for the Queen. This size is perfect for larger frames and couples. It's big enough to accommodate two people, feeling sturdy to last despite the weight and pressure you put on it.

After nights of sleeping here, this is a great floor mattress for both homeowners and guests. I don't feel as much back or neck pain as I did before, waking up refreshed. And honestly, that's surprising coming from a floor mattress!

Is Sleeping on the Floor Beneficial?

floor sleeping mat

Initially, I thought that sleeping on the floor would be bad for my back. But after I started reading and testing it out myself, I realized that it had its perks!

According to NCBI, those with chronic back pain will find that sleeping on the flat surface can help support body weight. The flat surface also helps keep the spine in a neutral position and an equal amount of pressure.

Because of this, it helps reduce body pain and prevents poor positioning which leads to sore muscles in the morning. This is especially true when you've got an adequate floor mattress for better comfort!

But, sleeping on the floor isn't right for everyone. There are a few sleepers out there that prefer and need the proper foundation. Seniorspregnant women, or sensitive sleepers should consult a doctor before getting the best one.

Why Invest In the Floor Sleeping Mat?

floor beds for adults

Why is it recommended to invest in the best floor mattress? There are many benefits to reap from it besides lessened back pain. Here are some of what these products have to offer:

1

Saves on Space

Don't have enough space for a bed frame in the house? The best mattress on the floor is actually a great space-saver! Usually, you can find a folding mattress for the floor, making it easy to store after use.

That way, you don't need to take up so much space to get a good night's sleep. Plus, since these mattresses are lightweight and compact, they can be brought to any room with ease! You can convert a place to a guest or bedroom without the hassling setup.

2

Great for Guests

Having the bed on floor isn't just for your sake, but it can be a solution for guests as well! I mean, have you ever had guests come over, only for them to sleep uncomfortably on the couch?

It's the reason why it's best to have extra bedding to prevent them from having a bad night's sleep. That way, your guests only have praises for your great hospitality after their stay.

3

Good for Traveling or RV Living

Because floor mattresses are compact and foldable, they make a fantastic bed when you're out of the house. Just fold and pack it in and use it during your camping trips. It'll be a very comfortable night's sleep compared to being on the cold, hard ground!

These mattresses can also be used for RV living. No need to hassle yourself in finding a good option to fit the vehicle. With a foldable and adequate floor mattress, you'll be able to have more space as you travel with your RV!

4

Affordable Bedding

The one benefit I love most about floor mattresses is that they are less expensive than conventional mattresses. It's great for those who are on a budget, may it be for themselves, for traveling, or for guests.

You'll be able to save a lot of money, especially when you can't afford the space or price yet. And yet, they still have the strength and quality for supportive sleep!

Tips on Selecting the Best Mattress on Floor

ASleepywolf - Best mattress

Now that I tackled the different questions people ask about the floor beds, how can you select the best one? Here are the essential factors to consider:

1

Folding or Rolling?

There are two different types of floor mattresses:

  • A folding mattress is usually tri-fold, easy to pack and setup. They also take shape and feel like (but not exact similarity) a conventional mattress.
  • Rolling mattresses are much better for camping or traveling. This is because it saves more space in the pack, though don't hold the shape as folding ones.

2

Its Weight and Foldability

Invest in a floor mattress which has the space-saving properties, may it be for the house or traveling. Getting one that's lightweight and easy to pack and setup. It should also be at the right size to fit the area.

With a light and foldable mattress, there won't be a problem with storage space. Nor will you hassle yourself with bringing it around!

3

Your Preferred Comfort and Support

Besides your mattress' weight and compactness, it should also be comfortable for quality sleep! As much as possible, I recommend that you get something with a soft feel.

But it should also be made of the supportive properties to relieve the pain from sleeping on a hard surface.

4

Where Will You Use It?

Will you be using the mattress for traveling or for home? You might want to consider getting a travel bag if you'll use it for camping.

Look at the space you have in your room, RV, or tent. That way, you can get the adequate size for you and your area.

5

What's Your Budget?

Like mentioned, the floor mattress is quite affordable, with the prices ranging from $60 to $230. With that being said, find out how much you're able to afford your room. Find out what your budget is but avoid scrimping!

Bonus: Is It Fine to Place the Conventional Mattress On the Floor?

asleepywolf tired

Floor mattresses don't must a foundation, but what about conventional mattresses? Can you place these types on the floor and reap the supportive benefits it has to offer?

While it's okay to place your conventional mattress on the floor, it does have its disadvantages, such as:

  • Putting your mattress on the floor leads to mold underneath, which causes health issues. Regardless of the mattress type, the mold may grow, making allergies and other conditions. This also goes for people who live in humid environments.
  • Mattresses must a foundation or surface where they can breathe from. Like us, they need the natural airflow that comes through its fabric to prevent it from first wearing.
  • A conventional mattress won't be able to feel as breathable on the floor (compared to an actual floor mattress). It requires a raised surface for better airflow, or else you'll be sleeping hot the entire night!
  • Insects and other dirt can come in contact with your thicker, conventional mattress. This causes damage and a shorter lifespan.

Because of these disadvantages, I don't support the idea of placing your conventional mattress on the ground. That's why I recommend that if you do choose to sleep on the floor, invest in the best floor bed instead.

Conventional mattresses are much better when placed on a solid foundation. That way, you have both breathability and support from it!

But do take note that while floor mattresses are highly beneficial, it shouldn't be used for long-term sleep! They are best used for temporary beddings until your mattress arrives, or for guests and traveling (camping or RV).
